All About You believes that everyone deserves personal care and support. Our employees are part of a short-term, intensive program where, for up to 9 months, we provide skills training, professional development, and job resources as a path toward greater financial and professional success. Former employees have gone on to become attorneys, nonprofit employees, bookkeepers, and community advocates.
“Prior to working here I had menial jobs. But when I started, I was able to have one job that provided me with a stepping stone. I was reinvigorated and returned to school, ultimately becoming a criminal defense attorney. “

CENTER FOR LIVING AND LEARNING
Board of Directors | Officer’s Roster | 2018
Maria “Alex” Alexander | Executive Director
Maria “Alex” Alexander is Executive Director of the Center for Living and Learning, the parent organization of All About You. Alex has served in this role since 2005, and brings over three decades of customer service and management experience.
Alex is a leading figure in the movement to effectively remove barriers to employment for the most vulnerable populations in Los Angeles. Through paid job training, job readiness workshops and advocacy efforts, the Center for Living and Learning has grown to serve over 600 individuals annually with employment and support services across LA County.
Alex serves as Chair of the San Fernando Valley Providers’ Collaborative, member of the steering committee of the Los Angeles Regional Reentry Partnership, Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Regional Reentry Partnership Employment Subcommittee, and Chair of the San Fernando Valley Employer Advisory Council.
As a member of long-term recovery and a formerly incarcerated person, Alex also advocates for drug policies, sentencing reform, and reducing the stigma of those same populations. As a former theatre student at El Camino College and video/film production at Los Angeles City College, she never imagined that her life would take a detour and one day serve those in search of new beginnings.
“This organization not only hired me while I was in residential treatment after years of homelessness and incarceration, they assisted me in getting housing upon completion and legal services to regain custody of my children. I could not have dreamed 16 years ago of the life I have today. To be able to make a living giving back and helping others like myself get a step up, is a privilege and an honor.”
